Hi All, Tomorrow (today 3/4/25) there will be this lab tour at Roberto Cerbino’s lab (Physics, Univ. Vienna)… just down the street at Boltzmann* Gasse 5, at 17:00 – see attachment for direction. The tour is in the context of the Austrian Rheology Society that Ursula is spear-heading. Roberto is super cool/chill guy I’ve known well for quite a while and who we are applying for grants together with, so there will most likely be some upcoming collaborations where we will work closely together on. He comes at things from soft-matter physics perspective. Think it might also be great to get to know his students/postdocs, as they do a lot of optics and probably fun to brainstorm with (they also have a nice kitchen where you can stop by for coffee/tea when nothing is working and you feel you need to talk to someone that understands you). Also, in terms of optical components if you need something right now and can’t wait for order or just want to quickly try something, postdocs in his lab might be useful people to have connection with/on speed dial. I have to oversee this dissection course during this time (theoretically from 16:30-19:30) so might not be able to join (but will try to if can find someone to step in), but I might be able to join for a quick beer afterwards (from what I understand plan is to go to pub afterwards) - @Ursula: do you maybe have time plan for afternoon/evening to share? All the best, Kareem * Btw. Speaking of Boltzmann, my PhD supervisor (from way back when) randomly informed me that I am 4 degrees removed from Ludwig Boltzmann. Meaning his supervisors supervisors supervisor was Ludwig Boltzman, or something like that (kinda like the Kevin Bacon game, or in mathematics the Erdoes tree, if you are familiar but more direct). So you guys can I guess technically say you are five degrees from Boltzmann.. don’t know in what practical context that may be useful, maybe you can blame some of your creative madness on the trickle down from him 😊)
