Usually it is code you can insert in. In TCD; they facilitated this for the 2023 meeting with code for paypal. On that- I also want to register. I booked my flights earlier in the week and was queried by our finance office why I was travelling. Confirmation of registration is usually sufficient for this. Hi Baubi, Hope all well & you recovered from business run! 😊 Would it be possible to spread this announcement to Austria Bioimaging (e.g. through email & soc media)? Kareem -- It is a pleasure to invite you to the 9th International BioBrillouin Meeting (BioBrillouin 2025) that will take place at the Max Planck Society Conference House in Berlin, Germany on the 25-27th November 2025. All information pertaining to submission of abstracts and the meeting can be found at: www.biobrillouin25.com Deadline for abstract submission is 1st October 2025, with notification of acceptance on 14th October. Submission for both talks (12min+3min questions) and/or Posters are accepted. We have assembled an impressive lineup of invited/keynote speakers, that we believe encompass the latest developments in the field (from technology development, interpretations to applications) and provide perspectives/insights for expanding its horizons to new applications. The meeting venue (Max Planck Conference House), presents an intimate setting where many great meetings have taken place over the last century, and promises to provide the perfect opportunity for discussing, building ideas, and networking. Registration will open on the 1st October (if you submit an abstract we will inform you as soon as it opens). Covered in the registration are all meals (lunches and dinners, including conference banquet) during the course of the meeting. Hi All, Seems mid Oct abstract confirmation might be bit late for some people to plan travel (see below). Would you be ok to make exceptions and send early “approval” emails to some before (after we all review said abstract and agree) -- or else I would tell him to wait until Oct 14th?. I don’t see any harm in making such exceptions as long as we unanimously agree on case per case basis that we want said abstract as talk. @Michael is there a way that we can also have access to submitted abstracts? Here’s title and abstract from Miguel --the whales technically even make it bio 😊 Title: Geophysical and biological applications of distributed optical fiber sensing in the oceans Miguel González-Herráez / Spanish Council for Research (CSIC) Abstract: Submarine optical fiber cables are nowadays the most important infrastructure of international communications, carrying over 99% of the intercontinental data traffic. These critical infrastructures for communications also have a strong potential for geophysical and biological monitoring in the bottom of the oceans, relying on Brillouin and Rayleigh scatterings. In this talk, I will review our work on oceanographic and biological monitoring using distributed optical fiber sensing over submarine fiber cables. I will show that Brillouin and Rayleigh distributed fiber sensors can be used to obtain information of ocean dynamics, including accurate observations of surface waves, currents, and tides, and all the associated nonlinear phenomena driving water mixing, which have a strong impact in climate change estimations. Moreover, these systems can also be used to track large mammals (e.g. fin whales, blue whales) by hearing and localizing their vocalizations. Speaker short bio: Miguel González-Herráez received the M.Eng. and D.Eng. degrees from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain, in 2000 and 2004, respectively. In October 2004, he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics, University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in June 2006 and to Full Professor in December 2018. In September 2025 he has taken a position as Full Professor in the Spanish Council for Research (CSIC), the Spanish research-only national-level institution. He is the author or coauthor of >150 papers in international refereed journals and >180 conference contributions and has given >25 invited/plenary talks at prestigious international conferences. His research interests cover the wide field of nonlinear interactions in optical fibers, with particular focus on distributed optical fiber sensing. Prof. González-Herráez has received several important recognitions to his research career, including the European Research Council Starting Grant, the “Miguel Catalan” prize for young scientists given by the regional government of Madrid and the “Agustin de Betancourt” prize of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering.
